Howdy again boys! I've a totally unrelated knife questions because me me me, is why. I recently got a Fallkniven knife in elmax (yes the R2 Scout, it is really pretty awesome) BUT I noticed after the first bit of use, some light batoning and feather sticking, there were small but noticeable chips out of the belly area of the blade. I sharpened it, on a DC4, took the little chips out and used it again, a bit of carving and feather sticking BUT then I had to cut some sandy nylon rope (4 cuts ) and a bunch of sandy kelp, to remove 2 lobster traps that washed up where I work as a park ranger. This dulled the blade a lot BUT no more chips. SO, have you ever noticed this on Elmax from Fallkniven where it's chippy from the factory but then seems to be better after a new edge is put on it? Just curious really. I like this little knife, it's very handy to put in my over crowded kit I carry around on me at work. Take care guys.
There are so many problems with the design - Heavy for its size (A Svord Kiwi Machete 12" is less than 300g ) - Poor weight distribution - Uncomfortable handle for prolonged use - Really short cutting edge (means you can do less cutting and need to do more chopping). It's a fun novelty and I want one...
As an American, please never stop doing American impersonations. Also, while that Gerber may not be the best "bushcraft" choice out there, it honestly would make a damn fine yard work tool. I also wonder if this being a balisong construction might actually be what is helping with its strength since it's not a folder acting on a single pivot but instead distributing that across TWO pivot points.
It has lots of “give” apparently because the blade is not solidly connected with the handles? Seems to me the shock load is distributed through two pivots and the spring tension of the handles
Machetes aren't made for batoning and chopping large trees. They are thin and get stuck. They are for clearing small brush, briars and high grass to make a path easier to walk through. You bring a hatchet for the heavy things. It is simply using the correct tool for the job.
I got to see this product in its prototype stage several years before it hit market. I can’t say much, but what I will say is it went through several iterations before being released and Gerber made sure it was stupid proof before leaving the prototype stage. Butterfly knives have been used for bush tasks in the Philippines for years and years. It honestly makes sense to have something with that design platform be expanded on for larger applications.
that's not the problem, some Dutch prince was there, too xD@@kuplung22 but he is actively supporting the Nazis in Ukraine, that's why I will defo not buy from him. the pocketchete is much stronger than this Gerber toy.
@@couchcamperTMI did not know this, has he said as much online? Do you have a link? Genuinely interested to read/watch about that. Not cool at all if that is true
In fairness a machete is for slashing through thick vegetation ( think jungle) which is not the same as what the community calls a "chopper" which is meant to chop through wood.
I enjoy these knife clowns' videos. You know, after having worked with the Dutch Army in several NATO exercises I had a really, really low opinion of the Dutch but you two have restored my hope in that country.
Happy Thursday! That one seemed like a gimmick that would break quickly. I’m surprised! Nice pumpkin Maarten, we are carving ours this weekend. 🙂 Have an awesome week!!
I bet this thing actually sells pretty well in big box stores and now you guys have shown the true knife nuts that it actually doesn’t suck and probably helping sell even more. So who knows, maybe we’ll see them do a version with better steel at some point although I still wouldn’t buy one lol. Oh and 5 star pumpkin!
Picked up one of these about a year ago(glad I did at $110 its about $170 now). Still in box will probably sell. Only issue is with all the double stop safety BS when opening. Dropped it almost cut my toe off.If you disabled them it would be like Shaquile Oneils butter fly knife
To be fair, Gerber is shit. This is sadly confirmed again and again by pretty much every knife they make. I'm pressed they even tried it, I wouldn't spend a cent on anything with Gerber on it
Hahaha yes yet again you pair delivered the information and the laughs plus them special effects at the end with the pumpkin and smoke machine was worthy of Hollywood 😂 catch you pair next week till then stay safe and healthy lads🫵🏻😘👍🏼
@@DutchBushcraftKnives no I thank you very very kindly. You two do so much for your fellow man in the way of just making us all feel better about ourselves and not being so serious about life it’s a lift that is incredibly helpful in our modern lives. Never underestimate how much you two help others. Hold on this is sounding like a compliment haha yes yes it is and rightly so 🫵🏻👍🏼
Fun Fact: It truly is less effort to add a piece of file or hacksaw blade to any piece of string or cordage to carry along on ones massive journey into the unknown. Instead of........ Crying about sharpening a spine, or not buying the knife one really wants because of said lack-of.
I think if they changed the blade profile and bevel grind and kept the same price but with D2 and a more premium option in like S35 or M4 i think it would be great.
Have you guys checked out FOBOS knives yet? If you can get one I think you would like to check them out… a little on the tacticool side but I feel like the Tier 1 BC in magnacut would be something you guys would be interested in!
"I suddenly have an American accent, but my English hasn't improved at all....." Weird that, 'cause I was thinking that you speak English better than the average American person! Americans and Englishmen - two nations separated by the same language..... 😉
Only thing is if you need it to be a little shorter for storage reasons, fit in a certain backpack pocket or something. Other than that though, Id just get a fixed blade.
As time progresses your opinion of " chopping" may be supplanted by batoning the knife around the wood and then snapping in two. A less expensive "folding machete" would be adequate . P.S.- $169.00 dollars ? 420 hc ? No way

I can't believe there's a market for some of these utter piece of shit knives

Your humor and friendship are priceless.
Just looked up my email to Cold Steel from 31st January 2011 suggesting they make a folding machete. Good to see someone finally had a go.
There are so many problems with the design
- Heavy for its size (A Svord Kiwi Machete 12" is less than 300g )
- Poor weight distribution
- Uncomfortable handle for prolonged use

Yeah, balisong is really one of the strongest designs for a folding knife.
It has lots of “give” apparently because the blade is not solidly connected with the handles? Seems to me the shock load is distributed through two pivots and the spring tension of the handles

I was very sceptical at first, but now I must admit that is a nice pumpkin.
Jörg Sprave made the Pocketcheti
The German dude who's grandfather was In ss?
The DoubleDown came first.

@@kuplung22it his grandfather not him. Has he done anything wrong ?
I love the phrase "fully shitted diaper".
It's directly translated from Dutch, we say ''volgescheten luier''.
In fairness a machete is for slashing through thick vegetation ( think jungle) which is not the same as what the community calls a "chopper" which is meant to chop through wood.
The pumpkin was ok the knife was ok but you boys are the best!!
I enjoy these knife clowns' videos.
You know, after having worked with the Dutch Army in several NATO exercises I had a really, really low opinion of the Dutch but you two have restored my hope in that country.
Kinda strange because the Dutch military usually ranks high.
"My mum was a pumpkin". Priceless. Must have been lonely around Halloween though, with your mum standing out on the porch all day.
Happy Thursday! That one seemed like a gimmick that would break quickly. I’m surprised! Nice pumpkin Maarten, we are carving ours this weekend. 🙂 Have an awesome week!!
now you have to do the cold steel rajah 2
Better than expected. Perhaps the kind of knife you use when you go out camping.
You had me at “what if it was illegal”!

Man.. it’s been a VERY long time since I hear Shaqs full name used in any context. 😂
$170 !?!
...man, I expected it to be closer to like $40. Lol
for 170, just buy an expada xl, they're 150 and way better
The pumpkin was the best part, I look forward to it next year too. Mikkie, how can you not like Halloween, think of your roots!
Cool tool. Don't get the idea though. Machete is supposed to tackle totally different range of tasks, or am I wrong?
true. but we don't really have the right environment in the netherlands to test machete's for what they're made
169 euro's is a bloody expensive toy not to mention that it is totally illegal here in Australia..😢
A folding machete is not something I would rely on except in an emergency. My opinion.
not the Gerber one for sure but Midgard may come up with something sturdy. in limited numbers.
Any port in a storm.....
In a few weeks, Böker is going to release a new fixed blade with Magnacut steel for 160 Euros. Could you test it for us? Its name is Vigtig vs. Wild.
Oh nice, I didn't realize Gerber made a folding crowbar. I wonder how many people in the comments have mentioned this.
If that exact "knife" said TRC or Midgards instead of Gerber they would have went bananas over it.
To be fair, Gerber is shit. This is sadly confirmed again and again by pretty much every knife they make. I'm pressed they even tried it, I wouldn't spend a cent on anything with Gerber on it
As an American who is born and raised in the south, The southern/Tactical American impersonation is spot on.
Crossing my fingers it offends 😁
I’m wicked glad that that was a knife in your pocket because I thought you were just happy to see me

This is better than any slasher movie we ever watched!!!!
Nicely done on testing the folding machete. I was hoping for complete destruction. But , Awesome Job!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
I’m with Mikki small knife and a folding saw is the way to go.
Nice pumpkin 👍🏻
Interesting knife, did not think it would survive, good umpkin as well
From the way you started the video, I thought this was going to be a musical.
Best pumpkin carving I’ve ever seen, and I am 70 years old! 😁😉
10:45 "How can i be your son if you are my son?"
ALABAMA!!!
Can't wait to get one. Looks great
Fortunately I live in a state in the USA where I can carry anything I want, full size machete, gun, whatever. No folding toys required.
Fun Fact:
It truly is less effort to add a piece of file or hacksaw blade to any piece of string or cordage to carry along on ones massive journey into the unknown.

Crying about sharpening a spine, or not buying the knife one really wants because of said lack-of.
Is Midgards Messer the same company as Tools for Gents? Or do they have an exclusive distribution deal or something?
we have some collaborations together
stunning performance of this funknife😉maarten & Mikkey makes art of pumpkins 😅👍
Sweet Pumpkin Bro!!! Rock on!
You guys need to try the Midgards Fenris
The machete you bring when you don't think you're going to need a machete.
Others have said it but this really needs to be compared to the Rajah II, which is basically this but not a gimmick.
I am missing super muscle hammer guy
This Gerber Doubledown folding machete, is kind of like a folding Bowie knife.
What steel would you have prefered to be on the knife?
Been waiting for a review of this by someone of your caliber. 👍
I’d love to see a full video on some Midgard knives by you guys. Also another CRK model would be cool.
What's the giant fixed blade in the ad for Midgards? I can't find it anywhere and I NEED IT
Maarten gonna use the fox next to show how strong the fx boss is😂
he's asking for it for sure
Fun fact.
This thing is legal in germany.(because of it's gear locks)
Even therefor germany is very strickt with knifes.
Most American companies seem to do really well with 420HC heat treat
I can't believe that's not a cold steel
Great video as always boi's! That Gerber was a shocker when I saw the price!! I was honestly thinking it was a $75 knife max!!
Can’t wait for them to review the 4 Max Scout
If they like the AD10,
They’ll love that one
The Gerber surprised me 😁 makes me wonder how well the Milwaukee Duct Knife would do 🥹
It's a good day with DBK 🎉
I like the Pumpkin ❤
Your pumpkin was smashing
Nice....when will you have more DBK knives in stock?
Also, test the Victorinox Venture Pro
good news! DBK knife will be in stock next week!
Venture pro is on the list! But we're waiting for victorinox to fix the sheath
more Pumpking please, i love the orange color!
It has that butterfly effect 🤪🎃
That's a great pumpkin. Good job Martin👍
Please review the CRKT Razel Nax, that thing looks ridiculous
I think if they changed the blade profile and bevel grind and kept the same price but with D2 and a more premium option in like S35 or M4 i think it would be great.
Ive been impressed with mine and had it about 2 years now
Good job guys
How about testing some old military knives like the Cattaraugus 225Q or the PAL 36…. Both WW2 eta knives.
Rajah-ll from cold steel would do a lot better..😎
Cool concept 👍
That is a big balisong!
Hmm... Correct me if im wrong, but i believe that Cold Steel Voyager Xl would be way better choice for this.
lovely Pumpkin :)
The Coldsteel 4Max scout seems to be a better chopping folder then this and it is half the size
When will the DBK Knife be back in stock?
Review the Victorinox Rangergrip please! 😮
Bushcraft boy's fox catch and cook video peace and love from 1 leg UK England
The blade rolled just from slicing paper 😂
You should test some of the Midgard knives
What is the blue jacket he has on?
You gotta test the Buck 119/120. It’s the missing piece of the puzzle.
Cool video, i was surprised
Have you guys checked out FOBOS knives yet? If you can get one I think you would like to check them out… a little on the tacticool side but I feel like the Tier 1 BC in magnacut would be something you guys would be interested in!
“A fully shitted diaper” 😂
How can we buy the DBK-Knife?
In The Netherlands illegal in two ways. Balisong style and opened too long
"I suddenly have an American accent, but my English hasn't improved at all....."
Weird that, 'cause I was thinking that you speak English better than the average American person!
Americans and Englishmen - two nations separated by the same language..... 😉
hahahaha
Hell, I’ve met people from the Netherlands who speak more grammatically correct English than I do, and I’m English!
The hidden message bro
Man, that definitely was a pumpkin! 👍
Who makes the hoodie at 1:49?
it looks like revolutionrace
@@valtterisopenpera9306 It is. You rock! Many thanks.
yes revolution race
It reminds me Coldsteel Luzon Large. I would not buy it, but it is quite OK for a folding knife...
Can you guys have a look at the work tuff gear Ares? Looking like a beast and Joe X couldn't destroy it!
"My mom was a pumpkin"
You get a 👍🏻 just for that comment 😂
Not first. There was a was US Army folding machete
Cold Steel Rajah II or Gerber DoubleDown?
Hey Mickey. PUMPKIN!!!
Butterfly knife machete thats some scary sht
Never understood a pocket machete tbh, just get a bigger folder.
I live and die by my Fox Knives Meskwaki.
Only thing is if you need it to be a little shorter for storage reasons, fit in a certain backpack pocket or something. Other than that though, Id just get a fixed blade.
is that the final fantasy game knife .. JEEz lol luv it
